Beatrice slid her leg out of the car. She was greeted by a sea of people and a woman's voice that came out from somewhere.
A pleasant morning to everyone. Welcome to XXX airline.
This was it. There was no going back. Before she could fully get her body out of the backseat, her sister, Kristy grabbed her left arm.
"Are you sure you don't want anyone else to know?" Kristy asked, her brows furrowed.
"Would it change anything if I said I was leaving?" Beatrice asked back, one of her eyebrows formed into an arch.
Kristy looked down and let her sister's arm go. She couldn't look at Beatrice anymore. She opened her mouth but no words came out of it. Would it change anything if someone other than their parents knew Beatrice was leaving?
A man's tall figure entered Kristy's mind. This was the man who made her sister fall in love and hate the word love at the same time.
"But you're happy here," Kristy's voice broke as she tried to reason with her sister.
"I was happy Kristy." Beatrice’s lips formed into a sad smile. "But I'm not so sure about that anymore," she added, her voice almost turning into a whisper.
A zooming voice of an engine drowned the buzzing of people. Beatrice looked up at the sky. It was blue. Peaceful. She watched the airplane become smaller and smaller as it traveled the distance.
"I need to go," she said as looked at Kristy again. This time her smile was less sad. But the action broke Kristy's heart.
"Be careful," she said.
"I will," Beatrice assured her before slamming the backseat door.
She walked away and never looked back. In the car, Kristy just stared at her sister as she got swallowed by the bustling sea of people.
When Beatrice left her line of sight, she made the car roar back to life.
