Is Genshin Impact Good?

I played lots of games. When I say lots, I mean LOTS. I don’t have enough fingers to count how many games I’ve played since I was young. Did I enjoy playing all of them? No. No, I did not. Some games were better than I expected. Others were lame, as hell.

Don’t get me wrong. The games, I played, have a certain charm to them. I commend all developers, who decided to create them. I say some of them are lame because I’m quite disappointed by how the game works. I’ll talk about them in another post.

Being disappointed by a lot of games made me steer clear about any news about them—especially new games.

This was why I never played Genshin Impact when it came out three months ago. I just discovered out that it came out recently and it had beautiful graphics.

Just a side note, I’m a sucker for beautiful graphics.

I ignored it for a time. However, news about the game bombarded every single social media platform I was on. MANY people liked it. Slash that. They LOVED it.

When Christmas almost came, I finally caved in and dived into the game.

I didn’t understand what the hype about this game was—until I played it.

Genshin Impact is one of the best mobile RPG games I’ve ever played. Keep reading and I’ll tell you why.

First, let’s get the technicalities out of the way. Genshin Impact is a role-playing game (RPG) published and developed by miHoYo. It came out last September 2020. It was awarded Google Play's "Best Game of 2020" and nominated for "Users' Choice Game" at the Best of 2020.

Pretty amazing for a new game. It has only been three months and Genshin Impact already had awards.

As a gamer, I think the awards are very well-deserved. These are some of the things that make Genshin Impact an amazing game. Let’s get started.

Characters and Teams

One of the best things in Genshin is that you have a variety of characters to choose from (aside from the main character, which you play as). Since the game has a gacha feature, getting new playable characters needs luck.

For those who don’t know, gacha is a type of game where players “roll” for a certain item. What item the player gets, solely relies on the ratings of each item. The rarer the item, the lower the chance to get that item.

Not to worry. The free characters given by the game are still amazing. You can even roll for free in the game if you collect enough Aquaint Fates (item) or Primogems (currency).

You are free to customize your team however you want it to be. Every character falls under any of the six elements—something that I’ll discuss in the future—and five classes. It takes a lot to design every team. Just for reference, I have a different team for exploring the world and taking down bosses or monsters.

Each character in the game is so well-designed. I am even excited to raise the Friendship Levels for every character to unlock their story.

Storyline

Amongst all the games I’ve played, Genshin Impact has one of the most immersive storylines.

To make the story short, the main character (Traveler or you) is on a journey to meet the Seven Gods of Teyvat to look for their lost twin. The twins got separated by an evil god at the beginning of the game and that’s when the story starts. There are a lot of plot twists and funny things in the story.

Don’t take my word for it though. That’s just part of the main quest of the game. At one point, I thought that Traveler was the God of Mondstadt. However, I met the real god who was chatty—you know what? I won’t spoil anything. The side quests are also fun. Now and then, the new event quests are added and updated so, you get to experience new stuff.

Open-World

In this game, the open-world is both amazing and horrifying. Amazing, because you can get anywhere on the map without completing any quest. Although, you need to be ready. While exploring as a level 5 character, you get to fight a level 18 monster if you are not careful. As for me, I don’t care. The world is so immersive and the graphics are so captivating that I forgave the level 18 water slime that killed me when I was a level 5. Ooops.

Those are some of the things that got me hooked on this game. Ever wondered, why I never posted these past few weeks? I traveled throughout Teyvat and I don’t regret every bit of it.

Anyway, it’s time to end this post. If I don’t, I’ll be talking about Genshin all day. I am planning to post things about it in the future—like befriending one of the monsters, getting almost killed by a fire plant, getting lost on an icy mountain then freezing to death. Fun stuff like that. See you around!
